The Idea Behind the Foundation

Over the years, countless websites and forums have highlighted new technologies and designs that engineers have created. Many would explain how these new technologies and designs worked, but fewer contained thorough explanations of which engineering processes were used. Moreover, some of these spaces didn’t even attempt to thoroughly study the engineering principles used in these new creations. Even though the articles themselves were neat and helped to inspire and captivate many readers along the way, the articles didn’t seem to fully captivate the engineering principles utilized in these new creations very well.

Many people outside of engineering seem to think of the world of engineering as this mystical dimension that only few people can understand. For example, when asking someone how an internal combustion engine works or how fuel cells in an electric vehicle work, a common response someone might get would be “magic”, a cute and sarcastic way of saying “I don’t know”. While there are many esoteric concepts in higher levels of engineering that usually occur in a Ph.D./Post-Doc environment, many of the engineering principles utilized by everyday products can be understood by most people. It’s understandable why math and science aren’t peoples’ favorite subjects, but it’s a travesty that this deters so many people from understanding the basic engineering principles that are used by everyday devices which we rely upon for our livelihoods.

The various engineering principles these devices utilize, ranging from Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, Statics, Mechanics of Materials, Materials Science, and so on, can be more effectively studied and analyzed in these everyday devices. Everyone knows the intended function and most know the limits of these devices, what they can and can’t do, and how their environment impacts their performance. All of these observations point to certain engineering principles that these devices were designed within. You may never see advanced calculus practices like a Partial Differential Equation or a Triple Integral as a proof to describe a Thermodynamic Process. You may never even see the total work performed by a design or the stresses and strains exerted on a structural component such as a rod, column or beam. This idea, however,  was the birthplace of a new endeavor…

The Beginning of a Strong Foundation

I Truss the Process was designed to not only help educate those outside of engineering to basic engineering concepts and principles, but also to refine and enhance the skills of the most talented and sophisticated engineers the world had to offer. There is wisdom in the idea of being able to explain a complex topic in simple terms to someone who doesn’t know the topic at all. If the person explaining the complex topic at hand is successful and the listener who doesn’t have a background in the subject matter whatsoever is able to understand what the person who explained the complex material said, it seems that person who explained the material knows the topic so well and has been exposed to the material long enough to have mastered it.

Continuing in the same vein as learning from masters of complex engineering topics, there is  value in learning from those who know more about a field of study we’re interested in. Whether it be for designing a more efficient cooling process for your home, engineering a device that can more efficiently cultivate hundreds of millions of Killer T-Cells that are needed to help a patient fight a life-threatening disease, or creating a waterway that can not only help prevent flooding but can also minimize environmental damage due to flooding or water run-off, we all have something to learn from each other. Moreover, those at the very top of their fields are not only learning of new discoveries, but are also still constantly learning of new methods and programs as well such as ChatGPT and Python.

I Truss the Process served its mission well. It informed and educated members of the public on the various engineering principles that were incorporated into the places and things we all use everyday. It used social media platforms to help reach those who would otherwise not be able to acquire the resources to understand the engineering behind these everyday places and items and why they are so fundamental to modern life.

As its impact grew, so too did the opportunity to broaden its reach. I Truss the Process was also committed to creating an environment where all can grow and learn from beneficial and accessible information. It provided a space where others could exchange ideas and question one another, which helped us understand more clearly the complexity that went into the engineering behind everyday things and places.

A Noble Beginning Evolving to A Dynamic Pillar

Unfortunately, the platform needed to evolve to serve the growing needs and demands for greater access to quality information. Because I Truss the Process was engineered and designed so well, a new platform could arise and provide these needs. It would be a platform that could serve global interests and educate far and wide.

Thus, Universalis Fundamentum et Fulcimen (U.F.F./UFF)—also known as The Foundation and Pillar in English—was created. This evolved engineering platform would be able to not only produce quality articles which upheld and advanced engineering initiatives, but was also designed to provide interactive tools to help those who want to understand engineering more deeply have the ability to access the resources they need.

The name itself-Universalis Fundamentum et Fulcimen—serves to describe the intent of the engineering platform: to be an engineering platform for all that is built on a solid foundation with a solid structure that can withstand the test of time. Similarly to I Truss the Process, U.F.F. invites all who are interested and want to contribute to the engineering discussion. This time, however, U.F.F. will provide more resources to help bridge the knowledge gaps and uphold the highest standards to further act on this promise.

Even though I Truss the Process has served its purpose, the intent and idea which governed I Truss the Process still lives on in U.F.F.—to improve engineering to better our world. Just as I Truss the Process invited all to join the engineering conversation, so does U.F.F. No matter your background or knowledge level, join the conversation and let’s build a powerful engineering platform—together.
